Amazing new Ashfield Aquatic Centre open to the public

Thursday 22 October 2020

Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne is encouraging locals to dive in and discover the new Ashfield Aquatic Centre, which opened to the public on the weekend.

“People will be blown away by how beautiful the new pools, gym, spa and saunas are,” said Mayor Byrne.

“After such a horrendous year this awesome new facility has opened just in time to give local residents and the people of Sydney a new outdoor, summertime destination.

“The rebuilding of the old Ashfield Pool is the largest community infrastructure project in our history, and we have now delivered multi-purpose aquatics and health and fitness facility that our community will enjoy for generations to come.

“Our new facility is unique with a state-of-the-art the movable floor and other features such as the pool boom ensuring there are options to provide a diverse range of programs at all times of operation.

“Ashfield’s swim and water polo clubs have a long history at this site and the new aquatic centre has secured their future use of the pool for training and competitions for years to come.

“There will be a range of programs available in both aquatics and health and fitness, which will provide programs for all ages, from babies all the way through to the seniors.

“I hope that across summer everyone in our community will get down to the new pool for a dip and discover this outstanding new public facility for themselves,” he said.

“Within just a few weeks we will also be opening Dawn Fraser Pool following a full heritage restoration of Australia’s oldest harbourside baths.

“In the Inner West, we invest in public pools as a public health and wellbeing strategy.”

The opening of the Ashfield Aquatic Centre also now allows Inner West Council to integrate its aquatics programs and services across multiple facilities like never before with membership options allowing for access to multiple sites.

Health and fitness amenities will provide programs for seniors, group fitness, personal training, schools use, children’s fitness classes. The site will also feature a fully equipped creche that will be open five days per week, instead of the previous two days per week prior to the renovation being undertaken.

The addition of the spa sauna and steam room provides a warm water environment to assist those who require this for rehab purposes or for just general relaxation and wellness.
