Have Your Say on $14 million Major Projects Program

Inner West Council is asking the local community to have a say on how NSW Government funding should be spent on major projects for the local government area.

Funding of $15 million was allocated to the new Inner West Council through the Stronger Communities Fund as a result of the merge of the three former councils of Ashfield, Leichhardt and Marrickville.

With one million dollars set aside for the Inner West Stronger Communities Grants Program, $14 million is earmarked for major projects that will be delivered over the next three years.

The Stronger Communities Fund Major Projects Program was established by the NSW Government so councils can kick-start projects identified by the community as priority projects.

The Administrator of Inner West Council Richard Pearson said it was important local citizens let Council know their priorities for how the $14 million should be invested.

“I want us to work with residents and community groups to prioritise infrastructure projects that will make a real and lasting difference to the lives of our local communities,” he said.

“It might be upgrades for parks and recreation, roads and footpaths, or community facilities.”

All community feedback will be considered by an assessment panel which will recommend projects to be funded to Council.

“This is one of the tangible benefits of the new Council - the ability to accelerate provision of much needed community infrastructure and projects,” Mr Pearson said.

“We will give the community plenty of opportunities to tell us what they think. I urge everyone to ensure they have their say,” he said.
