Safe disposal of expired marine flares

Wednesday 19 October 2022

Transport for NSW runs a marine flares collection program that visits sites in Greater Sydney and coastal NSW. The next round of collections begins soon.

Because marine flares contain explosive matter, you must dispose of them safely and legally after they are used or expired.

Most flares have a use-by date of 3 years, and penalties apply if they are not replaced before the expiry date. It is the responsibility of marine flare owners to dispose of the expired flares in a safe and timely manner.

The following collection days have been scheduled for the Inner West Council area:

Location:

  • Transport for NSW, 33 James Craig Road, Rozelle

Dates:

  • Sunday 27 November 2022, 9am to 11am
  • Sunday 15 January 2023, 9am to 11am
  • Sunday 16 April 2023, 9am to 11am

See the attached document for a full list of dates and locations across Greater Sydney and coastal NSW:
