The gym floor is equipped with a comprehensive range of cardio and resistance machines, complemented by an extensive free weights area designed to support all forms of strength training.
Ashfield Aquatic Centre features two group fitness studios.
Studio 1 is our primary and largest group fitness space, used for the majority of our classes. The room was originally designed to be partitioned into two separate areas, known as Studio 1 and Studio 2. Although the space is technically dual‑zoned, we operate it as one open studio, and all classes held there are listed simply under Studio 1 on our timetable.
Studio 3 features a shock‑absorbing floor ideal for yoga, Pilates, Body Balance, and other mind–body classes. When classes are not in session, Studio 3 is available for stretching and quiet exercise.
Our studios are available for general use outside of the group fitness timetable times. Please visit our Group fitness timetables page for class times and to book a class.
As part of our health and fitness offerings, body composition scans are one of the facilities available at Ashfield Aquatic Centre!
Body composition scans measure the amount of bone, fat and muscle you hold. It's a simple scan that takes less than 5 minutes. Body scans provide insights about an individual's body composition and offer beneficial information for individuals and trainers. The body scan offers an in-depth analysis of your body compared to traditional scales. Traditional scales simply give you the mass of your body, without knowing how much is fat and how much is muscle. For many it seems quite scary to have all that information. It's not meant to be an intimidating process; the body scan is designed to help you understand your body better and provide information to help you make informed decisions about your fitness journey.
Did you know?
Muscle weighs more than fat? You could be gaining muscle but traditional scales will tell you your overall body mass has increased which might seem disheartening to some. Body composition scans give you a better breakdown that allows you to accurately see what your body composition is.
Benefits
- Help you plan how to increase muscle mass and decrease fat: Body Scans allow you to see where you currently sit and how you can improve your overall body composition if that's one of your goals. Knowledge = power to make informed choices!
- Monitor visceral fat: for those concerned with the fat surrounding their organs body scans can help you with this. You can see how much you carry and make changes accordingly if desired.
- Understand your weight relative to general health ranges. The body scan will provide data about your current body composition if managing your weight is one of your goals.
- You will also be able to uncover how many calories your body burns on basal metabolic level (how many calories your body burns in a normal day before exercise.) As well as how many calories you are recommended to consume.
When to get a body scan
We recommend a body scan when starting a new exercise program, this will give you a useful starting point to measure your progress against. How frequently you complete a body scan will depend on your fitness goals, speak to our gym staff to determine how frequently you should complete a scan based on your fitness goals.

This is to enable our lifeguards to be able to easily identify patrons as having paid and booked this session, preventing those who haven’t booked from entering at this time.
During your booked session, you may be asked by lifeguards to lift your arms above the water so that your wristband can be sighted.
Patrons are to follow the conditions of entry. All patrons must be respectful to other users and are reminded that the area is a shared space. During your booking time we ask that you space yourself out across the three amenities for patron comfort.
