Bike share

Inner West Council supports share bikes as a transport option for our growing population. So far in 2026 more than 1 million journeys have been taken in the Inner West using share bikes. We also acknowledge the impacts on the community and our streets and parks and we are working in accordance with NSW Government regulations to support this popular transport option.

Inner West Council is working to incorporate share bikes as part of the transport system. In August 2026 the NSW Government introduced a regulatory framework giving councils greater control of share bikes and it will take time to incorporate this popular transport into our condensed street network.

To stay safe on a shared e-bike:

park your shared e-bike thoughtfully, using marked bays and bays set in the operator app if they are provided

wear an approved bicycle helmet, securely fitted and fastened

ride on bicycle lanes and paths, shared paths and roads. Footpath riding is only legal if you are under 16 or accompanying someone under 16 years old

stick to any age limit set by the operator

wear brightly coloured clothing so other road users can see you

don't carry another person or animal on your shared e-bike.

Please report any concerns about share bikes causing obstructions directly to the rcompanies.
