Swim School programs
Inner West Aquatics and Recreation offer school Learn to Swim programs at Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centre and Ashfield Aquatic Centre throughout the year.
Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centre
- Lessons are held in the indoor 50m pool and indoor program pool.
Ashfield Aquatic Centre
- Lessons are held in the indoor pool and outdoor 50m pool.
Programs run over 5, 8, or 10 consecutive days in one- or two-week formats, with 40-minute classes and a 5-minute changeover between groups.
Class ratios are 1:8 for Learn to Swim and 1:10 for advanced levels or squads.
To improve consistency across centres, the first day is now dedicated to individual student assessments. While this reduces swim time on day one, schools have reported smoother delivery for the remainder of the program.
From day two, students participate in full lessons and are reassessed at the end of the program. Certificates for achieved levels are provided to teachers for distribution on the final day.
School carnivals
We offer opportunities for swimming carnivals at the following centres:
Ashfield Aquatic Centre
- Outdoor 50m pool, all 8 lanes, and outdoor shaded grandstand
- Suitable for large schools can host for schools with up to 800 students
Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centre
- Indoor 50m pool, 4 lanes only, shaded alfresco outdoor area and indoor grandstand
- Suitable for small to medium schools, can host up to 180 students
Fanny Durack Aquatic Centre
- Outdoor 25m pool, 4 lanes only, outdoor shaded area
- Suitable for small schools, can host up to 70 students
