GUTS

Artist: Chloe Tizzard

A contemporary textile art piece composed of glossy, padded fabric tubes arranged in intricate, overlapping patterns. The color palette includes pastel pink, fuchsia, white, and deep burgundy tones, resembling abstract, organic forms. The tubes are tightly coiled and layered, creating a plush, three-dimensional texture.

This work will be on display from 7 May 2025 - 6 August 2025

Artist statement

GUTS is a soft sculpture installation created specifically for the Newtown ArtSeat. This work is a part of a broader artistic project in which the artist has been exploring the parts of the body and subconscious mind that make us squirm. The Artseat is also a rare opportunity for soft sculpture to be explored in public space. For Tizzard, the method of hand-stitching these works is a meditative way of making sense of the body/mind connection, a way to experience subconsciousness through long and quiet creativity.
