Cardboard Carousel(2024)
Artist: Simon Greiner
This work will be on display from 6 March 2024 to 29 May 2024
Artist statement
I love using recycled cardboard boxes as a material, because whatever transformation occurs, the sculptures stay anchored to what they used to be. They can be ordinary and wonderful at the same time, and the draw of that tension pulls at the imagination.
The carousel is an emblem of shared joy, and encapsulates the vibrancy of the local community and the carnival-like atmosphere of this local hub. Depicting dogs instead of carousel horses was a nod to the special place they hold in our community and a celebration of the everyday things that bring us so much happiness.
