Paul Vonwiller

Artists biography

Paul has been painting and drawing for about twenty years. He is a self-taught artist. Paul has attended various art classes and groups including Willoughby Arts Centre, North Sydney Leisure Centre and Centre house in Lane Cove. Currently he is involved in Roomies Arts, an organisation that links artists with creative opportunities and attends sessions at Buckingham House. Paul likes to get out exploring Sydney and beyond and enjoys travelling on public transport. He is also regularly involved in environmental actions and protests.

Current work and inspiration

In Paul's artwork he is interested in exploring his interest in the urban environment, in particular trains, bridges and other building structures. Paul often paints scenes from memory of the past and reminisces about the old trains, for example the red rattlers that used to rattle across Sydney.

Paul is a committed environmentalist and likes to paint local flora and fauna and uses his paintings to make statements about the effects of climate change and what we need to do to save our planet.

Paul likes to take photos, make sculptures, draw and paint.
"Painting and drawing scenes from the past and exploring environmental issues helps me in my recovery as I relax and release my mind, stimulating emotion and providing pleasure to myself and to others. I find that dedicating myself to my art and my activist work, is significant in my mental health management".

Paul is currently working on some sculptures of trains and planes and hopes to exhibit his work later in the year at the Inner West Blooming Arts exhibition. Read more about the Blooming Arts EOI and exhibition here.
