Mim Wheeler

Mim Wheeler is a new instructor with Aerialize. For 20 years Aerialize has been a fixture in the Sydney contemporary circus sector as a company that produces high quality performances and offers fun, dynamic, challenging and safe training in circus and aerial arts. Aerialize is also one of the most well established and respected circus and aerial training institutions in Australia. Aerialize is a not-for-profit arts organisation and registered charity.

Mim originally trained as a contemporary dancer and completed BA (hons) dance at Western Australian Academy of the Arts (WAAPA). She started Aerial whilst living in London and soon started performing on vertical apparatus (Rope, Silks and Chain).

She has spent the last 7 years performing across the UK and also teaching and performing extensively throughout Europe. After 15 years of living O/S, she is excited to be back in Sydney.

Current work and inspiration

Coming from a dance background, Mim's body has always been her primary tool of expression. She is always surprised at the endless capacity for the human form and movement to articulate very detailed and granular expressions. Her training in technical forms of movement (ballet/aerial arts) gives her the freedom to subvert and rearrange these forms to generate new meanings, and art experiences. "Even while writing this artist statement, it would be far easier for me to express this through my body rather than using words.." (Wheeler 2021).

Currently Mim's main focus is acclimatising to Sydney, connecting with circus community in the inner west and surrounds. Physically preparing her body to take on some new projects as they arise. Stay tuned for Aerialize Open Rig in 2022.

Check the Aerialize website for Summer Season 2022 - there are a range of classes for all ages and experiences.
