Dawn Fraser Pool set to receive much-needed facelift

Friday, 25 January 2019

Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne has welcomed an announcement from the NSW government of a $2.2 million grant to help save the iconic Dawn Fraser Pool.

Late last year, Inner West Councillors unanimously passed a motion to adopt the new master plan for Dawn Fraser Baths and to ask State and Federal Governments for urgent funding for a heritage restoration of the pool.

The master plan shows that if at least $6.7 million in priority works are not undertaken immediately the pool is likely to become unsafe for public and sporting use in the near future.

Council found enough savings to allocate $4.5 million to the refurbishment, but this still left a funding shortfall.

“I welcome the news that the State Government has approved our grant application to save Dawn Fraser Pool,” said Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne.

“The incredible rally we organised late last year at Dawn Fraser Pool sent a powerful message and has really had an impact.”
