Celebrate 2044

Wednesday, 8 May 2019

Celebrate local at Celebrate 2044 - St Peters, Sydenham and Tempe's own community fair - in Tillman Park, Tempe on Sunday 19 May, from 11am to 4pm.

This event showcases all that is great about the postcode - gourmet food, beer by Willie the Boatman and plenty of family friendly activities including Sydney Trapeze, old school games, Inner West Libraries and live music on the main stage.

Heading into its seventh year, the Fair celebrates the local area with a relaxed picnic style event on the Green.

From relatively small beginnings - 400 attended the inaugural event in 2013 - Council expects about 3,000 locals to sample ‘urban Vietnamese’, quesadilla, vegetarian and vegan burgers, and old-fashioned barbecue and cake stall.

Stalls for browsing will include Tempe Public School merchandise (tea-towels, aprons and bags), and plenty of local businesses will be showing off their wares.

Local community groups such as St Peters Cooks River History Group will have a presence – as will Inner West Council.

All the live entertainment is based in the area as well, and includes Tempe and St Peters school bands, The Majestic Players and Paul Mbenna and the Okapi Guitar Band.

“They’re three relatively small suburbs, but they are big in community spirit,” said Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne.

“At this community fair, everything is just so local – from Tempe’s own country-and-inner-western, ‘bluegrass magic’ band, The Clutterbuck Family Quartet to Sample Coffee roasters from St Peters and demonstrations from Sydenham’s Sydney Self Defence.

“If you want to celebrate where you live, or if you want to come from further afield and see what all the fuss is about, then I’ll see you at Celebrate 2044 on Sunday, 19 May,” Mayor Byrne said.
