Feast of Flavours to kick off October street festival season

The Feast of Flavours street food festivals will make a welcome return this year with Ashfield’s Tastes of Asia scheduled for Friday 7 October, followed by Summer Hill’s Neighbourhood Feast on Sunday 9 October.

Administrator Richard Pearson said that the festivals would provide a fun foodie outing for the whole family, celebrating the suburbs’ best.

“The Inner west Council is delighted to once again celebrate the suburbs of Ashfield and Summer Hill through its signature Feast of Flavour festivals,” he said.

“I invite you to bring along your family and friends to embark on a flavours journey, feasting your senses through the unique suburbs of Ashfield and Summer Hill.

“The events will provide an opportunity for locals and visitors to savour specialty dishes and tasting plates unique to each suburb, as well as to enjoy a great range of local products, free entertainment and fun activities for the kids.”

ASHFIELD’S TASTES OF ASIA
Friday 7 October, 6– 9pm, Ashfield Civic Centre forecourt and along Liverpool Road

This evening street festival will showcase the exotic flavours and cultural richness of Ashfield’s Asian food outlets. Ashfield is renowned for its wonderful Shanghai style Chinese cuisine, but there will also be cooking delights from India, Nepal and Thailand for your savouring pleasure.

Be entertained by over 12 acts including traditional Chinese dancers, as well as music throughout the evening in the Ashfield Civic Centre Forecourt. There will be free face painting for the kids.

SUMMER HILL’S NEIGHBOURHOOD FEAST
Sunday 9 October, 10am–4pm, Lackey Street, Summer Hill

Come along for a street festival that celebrates Summer Hill’s family-friendly food outlets and unique village atmosphere. Summer Hill is renowned for its cultural variety, heritage architecture, wonderful coffee shops and providores, popular contemporary restaurants and small bars.

Entertainment for young and old will be provided including cooking demonstrations, local craft beer talks, a pizza eating competition, a pop up beer garden, and a Kids’ Zone that is sure to impress with a range of free activities including; a jumping castle, face painting, free pinball machines and a petting zoo.

Continue your October feasting enjoyment at the Marrickville Festival on Sunday 23 October, and the Norton Street Italian Festa and Back to Balmain on Sunday 30 October. Visit www.innerwest.nsw.gov.au for the latest details.
