Demanding better treatment for the Rozelle/Lilyfield community

Inner West Council and Mayor Darcy Byrne invite you to attend a public meeting on Wednesday 12 October at 6.30pm at Balmain Town Hall to demand that the NSW Government start paying attention to and mitigating the ongoing safety, amenity and traffic impacts being inflicted on Rozelle and Lilyfield residents.

For years, our local community has borne the brunt of impacts from the construction of WestConnex, including a massive loss of parking, continual road closures and 24-hour vibrations and noise from drilling and excavation.

The derelict Balmain Leagues Club site, which the NSW Government took possession of for almost two years, has still yet to be demolished and we even had to issue orders for the site to be boarded up and made safe following the most recent fire there in May.

This dangerous site represents an ongoing threat to public safety and it’s dominating presence is having an ongoing determinantal impact on local businesses and main street amenity.

Additionally, the community deserves answers on the planning for the future of Victoria Road, and the funding shortfall for the promised park at the Rozelle Interchange site.

We have invited NSW Government Ministers to attend the public meeting on Wednesday 12 October, to hear about the legitimate and real concerns of the Rozelle and Lilyfield community and outline how they will be addressed.

This meeting will be an opportunity to mobilise our community to insist upon fairer treatment from the NSW Government and proper planning for local community benefits when NSW Government infrastructure projects are finally completed.
