History Week 2022: Hands-on History

  Monday 22 August 2022

Inner West Council is celebrating History Week with a series of events in early September.

History Week runs from 3 – 11 September and this year’s theme is Hands-on History.

The theme invites everyone to get hands-on and engage with professionals in the field. Highlights include:

• Jacqui Newling, Sydney Living Museums Curator and professional specialist in gastronomy, will share how archives, including century old cooking books, inform her history research in exploring the heritage of food

• The Sydney Philharmonia, one of the longest running arts organisations in Sydney, will exhibit their photographs and ephemera in A Century of Song at Leichhardt Library. Includes a panel discussion and conversation around lessons learnt from history

• Children and carers are invited to an immersive medieval experience and hands-on journey to Ancient Egypt to learn about hieroglyphics and mummification

There’s podcasts, walking tours and history talks. All events and activities are free, but some require bookings.
