Looking after your bins

Keep our streets clean, safe and accessible by taking care of your bins and bringing in them in after they have been emptied.

The 'Love Our Laneways' Project is underway in Newtown!

Love our laneways, and bring your bins in after they have been emptied.

Over the next month in Weeks Lane, Hoffman Lane, Mulqueeny Lane, Melville Lane and Regent Lane in Newtown, we will:

  • provide house number stickers for your bins
  • add property numbers to lanes
  • return bins to your property after emptying
  • remove bins left out after collection day
  • clean up dumped rubbish, litter and weeds
  • contact businesses to manage their bins
Lodge a request to find out more from our team

Care for your bins:

Store your bins on your property to:

  • keep streets clear and footpaths open for our community
  • lower the chances of bins being damaged, knocked over, stolen or vandalised
  • help your recycling and FOGO bins from being topped up with the wrong type of rubbish
  • prevent illegal dumping by making streets look cared for
  • make the street less enticing to curious critters such as rodents and birds

Bin cleaning tips:

  • store bins out of direct sunlight, in a well-ventilated area
  • FOGO like a pro - more details can be found on our FOGO page
  • hose the bins out with water and scrub with a mop or broom
  • use vinegar, bicarbonate and a few drops of eucalyptus oil for an eco-friendly cleaning solution
  • sprinkle bicarbonate soda inside the bin, and salt along the bin rim after cleaning
  • keep meat or fish food scraps in the freezer until the night before your bin collection day
  • lodge a request to get a repair or replacement for your damaged bin
