Dance-A-Queeria

Artist: Nikita Majajas

A black and white drawing of three legs and feet with different types of shoes, a high heel with red toe nails, a platform shoe in pink and orange and a black boot on a white background.

This work will be on display from 18 February 2026 to 20 September 2026

Artist statement

Dance-A-Queeria is a joyful procession of queer legs in motion, each stepping forward in a different shoe, style, and attitude. Drawing on camp, femininity, and the politics of visibility, the work celebrates difference as collective strength.

The repeating form suggests unity, while the mismatched footwear honours the many ways queer bodies move through the world. By turning a simple walk into a dance, the artwork claims public space as a site of pride, play, resilience, and unapologetic self-expression.
