As a Chinese adoptee raised by white parents in New Zealand, Gabby challenges the western and colonial genre of Chinoiserie with her own narrative in paintings and ceramics. The resulting works are beautiful and delicate with stories that draw the viewer in for a closer look. This is a calculated contrast to the sometimes confronting messages within her work. Gabby's work the painted garden: stop asian hate (2022) is currently on the Newtown ArtSeat until 17 February 2023. Read more about Gabby and her work here. Applications are now open for Bairro Português – Petersham Festival 2023 including stallholders, food vendors, performers and creative workshop facilitators.
