Art Camp on the GreenWay, EDGE 2021 – a 24 day on site Artist in Residence project will see nature and creativity converge in one breathtaking hub. Over 20 art projects across diverse artforms will be developed in creative spaces such as shipping containers, under bridges and in community venues like the Wanderers, Café Bones and Canal Road Film Centre. In the wake of 2020, both our natural and creative worlds are at a similar tipping point – hammered by the climate crisis and impacts of COVID-19, we face enormous challenges for eco-systems to survive and thrive. Residents and visitors can wander the site, meet artists and see their work develop, or book in for workshops, talks and pop-up performances sharing insights into how art is made. Suara Indonesia Dance in collaboration with Bowerbird Collective, is one of the artists in residence. This project will explore the rich cultural contribution that Indonesian families have made to the Inner West over many decades through the metaphor of migratory shorebirds that connect Indonesia, Australia, and many other countries via the East Asian-Australasian Flyway. More here Paola Talbert is another artist in residence selected for EDGE GreenWay. Her innovative work ‘Moving through time - Celebrating the Leichhardt Wanderers’ recognises the anniversary of 110 years of the Junior Rugby Leagues Club. Working with historical and contemporary portraits, the series of photographs will showcase the extensive community engagement the club has provided over the decades. Unearthing stories like Burnum Burnum once being a notable Wanderers player. More about this work here The GreenWay Missing Links Public Art Program is now open for expressions of interest - calling for concepts of 13 sites connecting Iron Cove bridge to the Cook’s River. Find out about the opportunity here Support for the Arts has recently been announced and includes an increase in the RISE fund by $125 million. Applications are now open. Also note the additional $24 million from Destination NSW for a Live Music Support package to be administered in partnership with Create NSW and the Office of the 24-Hour Economy Commissioner. |
