Intersections has been created by Ashfield Public School students with Artist in Residence, Karen Manning and can be seen at the Newtown ArtSeat until 4 September. This oversized patchwork quilt is inspired by the beloved children’s book ‘My Two Blankets’ by Irena Kobold and Freya Blackwood. It showcases contributions of every student from Kindergarten to Year 6 at Ashfield Public School to acknowledge Refugee Week and the importance of compassion, empathy and human connection. With its fusion of woven imagery and text the work honours the experiences of migrants and displaced people, highlighting their journeys and resilience where a visual intersection of memories, culture and stories come together.
