What is illegal dumping?
Illegal dumping is the unlawful disposal of any rubbish in public places such as streets, laneways, parks, footpaths and waterways.
What to do with unwanted items?
There are many options to choose from
- Council has two Community Recycling Centres that take household problem waste
- Council provides regular household chemical and e-waste drop off days for safe disposal of e-waste and unwanted chemicals
- If you have quality items that could be reused, bring them to a reuse Centre such as Reverse Garbage or The Bower
- You can also use The Bower Reuse Tool to locate organisations and groups in your local area that offer reuse solutions
- If your items are broken and can't be reused or recycled you can organise a Council Clean-Up so your waste in disposed of in a responsible way
Is illegal dumping punishable?
Illegal dumping is punishable by fines of up to $4,000 for individuals and $8,000 for corporations under the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997.
