Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Local Democracy Group

Supporting First Nations leadership by advising Council on policy, cultural priorities and Reconciliation Action Plan delivery.

Purpose

The purpose of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Local Democracy Group (LDG) is to:

  • Contribute to achieving community outcomes as set out in the Inner West Community Strategic Plan and implementation of Council’s four-year Delivery Program.
  • Provide input into the development and implementation of Inner West policies, strategic plans and/or programs through engagement with Council officers.
  • Provide advice to Council in relation to matters which Council resolves to bring before the LDG for input.
  • Provide advice on the implementation of the current Reconciliation Action Plan, July 2023-June 2025.
  • Support engagement and provide advice on the development and implementation of the next Reconciliation Action Plan, July 2025-June 2027.
  • Support the delivery of the Aboriginal Community Hub.

Policy challenge

Over the term, this group will deliberate on the following policy challenge and report back to Council every six months on the progress:

  • How can Council refresh the Reconciliation Action Plan and systematically embed those commitments into policy development, implementation, and evaluation? This will include the delivery of the Aboriginal Community Hub.
