Tips for your bin collection

• Place bins outside your own property by 4.30pm the evening before collection day.
• Bring your bins back onto your property within 24 hours of emptying.
• Book a free clean-up collection for bulky household items (and garbage) when needed. 
• Keep your bins clean with lids closed to reduce smells and foraging by birds and rats.  
• Report broken bins - if your bin is broken, report it to us for free repairs.
• Know your bin – we can send you property number stickers for your bins, and stickers of what goes in each bin.  

All bins must be stored on private property. 

We know this is not always easy, so here are some ways to manage your bins.  

Unpleasant odours or pests?  

• Bag your waste – make sure your garbage is tightly bagged to keep odours contained. Using compostable liners to bag your food scraps can reduce odours and pests in your green bin.  
• Find a shaded location – to store your bins. Keeping your bins cool will ensure they won’t smell until they’re emptied.
• Regularly rinse your bin – use a hose and trigger nozzle, or a kettle of boiling water, to keep your bin clean. 
• Bicarb soda in the bottom of your bin – absorbs moisture and is a natural way to keep your bin fresh.  
• Get rid of fruit flies – mix a few drops of eucalyptus oil in water and spray inside your bin to prevent fruit flies.
• Consider a monthly clean – vinegar and bicarbonate soda are great natural cleaning alternatives. Avoid using chemicals that pollute our waterways. 

Not enough room for bins? 

• Change the size of your bin – if you are struggling with your bins being too big, or too small, you can change the size of any of your kerbside bins. Submit a request on our website to order or change the size of bins.
• Beautify your bins however you like, through stickers, painting, or a bin storage cabinet. As long as we can see the lid colour on presentation day and the serial number on the side of the bin, the rest is up to you.
