Chrissie Cotter Gallery

A small gallery with a big heart—celebrating 30 years of artist-led exhibitions, ideas and community connection in the Inner West.
Tucked into the Inner West, Chrissie Cotter Gallery is a tiny but mighty, artist-led space with a big history. Here, Inner West Council supports an ambitious, hyper-local annual program of exhibitions, talks, and workshops.

Opened in 1965, Chrissie Cotter Hall has long been a place for public gathering and cultural life. Named in honour of Mrs Chrissie Cotter, known for her social and humanitarian work, it was transformed into a community gallery in 1996. For the past 30 years, Chrissie Cotter Gallery has supported artists to create, experiment, and share their practice with the local community.

The 2026 season marks a special milestone. Drop in, say hello, and support local Inner West artists as we celebrate 30 years of making space for ideas, creativity, and connection. Exhibitions are free.

Local artist Olivia Arnold presents, Light Ode; an exhibition that documents place through meditative drawing and observation. In this exhibition, the audience will immerse themselves in a suspended drawing maze, study the pages of large scale artist books, and see their urban landscape in new and poignant ways.

"My practice is centred on slowing down and noticing. This exhibition is an incredible opportunity to develop large scale, experimental works, that encapsulate overarching themes of mindful observation and memorialising fleeting moments. I hope that as visitors enter the exhibition they are met with a sense of wonderment; of the beauty found in the everyday, those quiet pockets of light in a fast-moving world." - Olivia Arnold

Folds

Opening Night: Friday 19 June, 6 to 8pm
Exhibition Dates: 18 June - 5 July 2026

Folds presents a new body of work influenced by Gilles Deleuze’s theory of the fold and the Baroque, in dialogue with my ongoing investigation of kawaii culture. Combining Canadian smocking with embroidery, crochet, sewing, drawing and printmaking, my interdisciplinary approach echoes the multiplicity of folds, relishing in the excess and drama of kawaii and baroque aesthetics.
