Join Pasifika artist and printmaker Noelle Moa of Ula and Her Brothers for a fun, hands-on workshop exploring Pacific art.
Many Pacific cultures see birds as powerful symbols. Celebrated in Pacific myths and legends, they are frequently depicted in traditional art forms such as tapa (decorated barkcloth) and tatau (tattooing), representing ancestors and connections to land and sea.
In this creative session, young people aged 13-18 will learn basic printmaking techniques inspired by traditional and contemporary Pacific patterns and motifs, with a special focus on birds of the Pacific.
Participants will:
Learn about a selection of Pacific birds and their symbolism.
Design a bold print using simple shapes and patterns inspired by Pacific motifs and designs.
Carve and print their design onto artist-quality paper or a small fabric banner to take home.
