Film talk: Scoring documentaries

How do you score a true story? Composers Caitlin Yeo and Jessica Wells talk through their process, building a soundtrack, why music matters in documentaries, and what it’s really like working in film music.

About the speakers

Caitlin Yeo is an award-winning Australian screen composer with 90+ credits, including New Gold Mountain, The Rocket, Playing with Sharks, and Danger Close. She’s won multiple AACTA and APRA Screen Music Awards, plus the 2022 Sydney UNESCO City of Film Award.

Jessica Wells won the 2025 AACTA Award for Best Original Score in a Documentary for Mozart’s Sister, and the 2024 Art Music Luminary Award (NSW). She’s worked across solo harp to full orchestra, film, theatre, arranging, producing and conducting.
