Mattia, an Italian man in his thirties who has emigrated to Australia, leads a comfortable and stable life in Sydney, where everything seems perfectly in place – until, with the same swiftness with which autumn sweeps away summer, the sudden end of a long-term relationship and a serious health issue flood every corner of his world with an unrelenting rain that offers no shelter. Over the course of a year, Mattia will repeatedly feel as though he has stepped out into sunshine only to have his certainties swept away by the fury of a storm, culminating in a final hurricane that once again reshuffles everything he thought he knew.

With the same playful yet sincere irony of Latinoaustraliana, in Quando piove, diluvia, Marco Zangari tells the story of what happens when our plans collapse without warning and troubles arrive all at once, without even giving us time to catch our breath. It is about those moments when the downpour seems endless, when you are no longer sure what to call home and your family is on the other side of the globe – but also about the unexpected rainbows that fill the sky after the storm that changed everything has finally passed.
