Grupo Folclorico Da Madeira

Established 24 years ago, Grupo Folclorico Da Madeira is a cultural and folkloric group dedicated to preserving and promoting the traditional music, dance and customs of Madeira. Members of the group hail from Madeira, Açores and other parts of Portugal, or are descendants of Portuguese people. The group’s performances are a visual and auditory celebration of Madeira’s distinct folklore, featuring  dances accompanied by traditional instruments like the brinquinho (a type of tambourine), and the bombo (a large drum).  The repertoire includes not only the lively dances of the Madeiran people but also the region's distinct folk songs, often conveying themes of love, nature, and daily life in Madeira. The choreography and music often reflect the island's history of rural life, maritime traditions, and festivals, offering a glimpse into Madeira's cultural identity.

Aldeias de Portugal

In 1975 the first Portuguese folkloric dancing group in Sydney and Australia was founded by Carlos Gonçalves and fellow members of the Portuguese community. Aldeias de Portugal performed for the first time in 1976 and is celebrating its 48th Anniversary this year. With the dedication of the committee, members and supporters, Aldeias de Portugal has been able to represent the Portuguese culture in many cities in Australia including Canberra, Melbourne, Armidale, Perth, Brisbane and even overseas in Macau. They have been invited to perform for Pope John Paul II (1986), Queen Elizabeth II (1988) and even the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games, and at many other locations and events.

Portuguese Concert Band

The Portugese Concert Band was founded in Sydney in 1991 and till this day is the only one in Australia. It comprises of both wood wind and brass instruments playing classical Portugese melodies for the Portugese community clubs and council street festivals.

Grupo Folclorico Cultural Portugues

Since 1998, Grupo Folclorico Cultural Portugues de Sydney has served the community by showcasing culture and traditions -  including songs, dances and costumes - from different regions of Portugal.

Trio Teleboteco

Trio Teleboteco plays Choro, a Brazilian instrumental genre that has its roots in the late 19th century as an amalgamation of African rhythms and Portuguese/European classical music. Characterised by lively and cheerful beats, improvisation, and typical Brazilian instrumentation, the trio have been playing with various ensembles across Sydney since 2012. Trio Teleboteco explore a repertoire of classical and contemporary composers, presenting intimate shows with the core elements of the genre: melody, harmony and percussion. The trio is comprised of Roberto Steyer (mandolin), Ricardo Steyer (7-string guitar) and Renato Feijó (pandeiro).

Kriola Collective

A celebration of Brazilian Soul, Funk and Samba!  A unique nine-piece band, Kriola Collective features some of Sydney's best musicians capturing the Black Rio Samba, Soul and Funk movement from Brazil in the 1970s. The band's repertoire mixes groovy Brazilian beats, Bossa Jazz, Funk and Soul from the Carnival capital of Rio.  Kriola Collective lights up the dance floor with an explosive set of Brazilian infused Soul, Funk and brassy Samba from well known Brazilian artists such as Jorge Ben, Seu Jorge, Banda Black Rio, Tim Maia, Di Melo, Bebeto and Joao Donato.

Kássio Kruz

Now a household name in Portugal and in Portuguese communities around the globe, Kássio’s music is a vibrant blend of danceable pop and the rich traditions of contemporary Fado.

Now celebrating two decades in the music industry, 2022 and 2023 marked a significant return to his roots with the release of new singles under the label Editora Spatial. His latest tracks, including "Se eu pudesse-te beijar", "Balança, balança", "Deus deixou Escrito", "Diz-me a Verdade" and "Mãe és Luz", are pivotal to Kássio's artistic journey. The first two singles, "Se eu pudesse-te beijar" and "Balança, Bala", garnered four nominations at the International Portuguese Music Awards in the United States.

Fado in Australia

Fado In Australia is a Sydney-based band that was formed 16 years ago, thanks the passion of Portuguese immigrants who yearned for their native musical roots and decided to bring it back to the Australian Portuguese community. Their music is a unique Iberian melting pot, blending elements from Moorish, African, and Brazilian styles and performing traditional Fado styles ranging from contemporary to the classics.

Batucada Funk

We are a drumming group inspired by Samba, Batucada and other world beats. With a horn section giving us that banging party vibe. Our aim is to get you moving! We have around 10 drummers and horn players to perform for you with approx 5 dancers, who put on a great show and get the crowd dancing!

Heróis do Bar

Heróis do Bar is a Portuguese DJ duo celebrated for their high-energy performances that fuse traditional Portuguese sounds with modern electronic beats. Known for bringing the spirit of Portugal to life, they have been a key highlight of the Bairro Festival in recent years. With their unique style, Heróis do Bar create a vibrant atmosphere, uniting audiences through music that celebrates heritage and identity. Their sets are more than just entertainment—they are a tribute to Portuguese culture and joyful connection for communities around the world.

Keila Terencio + Co.

Join Keila Terencio to learn Portuguese words and names of animals - or create your own finger puppet, inspired by the Portuguese folktale of the rooster of Barcelos.

Keila Terencio is a Sydney-based artist, born and raised in Brazil. She is curious about ways of storytelling, in her practice she explores physical theatre, aerial dance, puppetry and movement, with a particular interest in subjects related to culture, languages and identity that unite people and societies. Her works have been programmed at SSI’s New Beginnings Festival 2018 and 2019, Scratch Art Space as part of Inner West EDGE, 107 Project’s Creative Program, Canberra’s Beyond Festival and Creative Conversations at Annandale Art Centre.         

Recently Keila performed for four months at the Museum of Contemporary Art as part of Janet Laurence’s “After Nature” exhibition. And she is currently working with Strings Attached Physical Theatre for three new upcoming shows.
