Public tree planting

Join us to grow a greener Inner West
Our public tree planting program helps create cooler, greener streets and parks for everyone. Find out how you can get involved and make a lasting impact in your community.

Inner West Council is committed to implementing a sustainable street and park tree planting program by planting all appropriate and viable sites.

This program aims to ensure that future generations can enjoy the benefits trees provide, including support for wildlife and the cooling and shading of our urban spaces.

All planting locations are subject to a site assessment, with all above and below ground spatial elements considered. The most appropriate tree species is selected to maximise benefits whilst reducing negative interactions, which in turn extends both tree and built asset life.

Councils planting program is delivered using only quality tree stock across optimal planting and establishment periods. This means that some locations will be delayed whilst tree stock is secured, or site conditions are further assessed to ensure a successful planting.

Council has potential tree planting locations mapped and will continue to deliver an annual public tree planting program. Through the IWC Street Tree Selection Manual.
