Council's new food recycling service for apartment buildings in the former Marrickville local government area takes food scraps via a burgundy lidded bin, captures the methane and turns it into green power.
This is an extension of the longstanding service in the Leichhardt area and will be rolled out to apartment buildings in the former Ashfield area in 2021. Council is also working on solutions for smaller apartment buildings and houses.
The average garbage bin in the Inner West is 36% food scraps. This service will save food going to landfill and take another step towards zero waste.
