Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne
Amidst the largest ever increase in sales of electric vehicles, Inner West Council provides more access to public EV charging than any community in Australia with 146 public charging ports already operational and 40 more due to be installed by the end of June 2026.
With close to 190 public EV charging ports to be operational by 1 July, the Inner West community has better access to public electric vehicle charging infrastructure than any other community in NSW.
The chargers range from 7 kilowatts to 22 kilowatts and include pole mounted and pedestal EV chargers. They have been installed on kerbsides and in public council car parks and are open to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The roll-out provides unparalleled access to public EV charging for every community across the Inner West and has been made possible by grant funding from the NSW Government.
Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne said, “As petrol price soar, more and more people are looking to the environmental and economic advantages of switching to an Electric Vehicle and we are dedicated to making it easy for the Inner West community to make that switch.
“With more public EV chargers than any other council, our community is the epicentre of the largest expansion of Electric Vehicle infrastructure ever seen in Australia.
“This roll-out is the culmination of our years of work and advocacy on our EV strategy and means the Inner West is the easiest place in the nation to use an electric vehicle.
“It is another huge step forward in making the Inner West the most sustainable municipality in Australia.”
