The Stronger Communities Grants Program allocates grants to incorporated not-for-profit community groups, for projects that build more vibrant, sustainable and inclusive local communities.
The 13 projects were selected from a number of applicants and awarded with grants ranging from $10,700 to $50,000.
The projects aim to deliver social, arts and cultural, recreation, environmental and economic benefits for the local community and strengthen social justice and inclusion.
“I’m very pleased to see these fantastic projects going ahead,” said Mayor Darcy Byrne.
“Each project will enrich life in the Inner West by celebrating our creativity and diversity, or supporting our most vulnerable residents.”
“I look forward to seeing these projects in action over the next year and congratulate the organisers for their energy and ongoing commitment to the community.”
Projects funded include Youth Off The Street’s Addison Road Community Centre (ARCC) Community kitchen refurbishment, which was awarded $50,000.The project will provide over 40 non-profit and community groups with access to local cooking and storage facilities.
The Sydney Underground Film Festival was awarded $20,000 for its Grassroots Film hub, which will deliver a range of activities to showcase and strengthen the diversity of local filmmakers.
AbSec (Aboriginal Child, Family and Community Care State Secretariat) was granted $15,000 for NAIDOC Family Fun Day 2019, a free event celebrating Aboriginal cultures through performances, food and fun activities.

Mayor Byrne convened the assessment meeting that evaluated all applications and made funding recommendations to Council for approval.
2018 is the final year of this three year NSW Government funded program which has seen $1 million allocated in grants.
