Cleaning blitz on Inner West main streets

06 August 2026
Announcement
Inner West Council is continuing its 'Street Blitz' program to provide intensive maintenance and street cleaning of main streets across the Inner West.

Council takes its responsibility for cleaning local main streets seriously, and in addition to our regular streetscape maintenance program which includes verge mowing, street sweeping and main street high-pressure cleaning, we have launched a new service.

Our Main Street Blitz program sees Council deploy up to 50 staff on a single day to repair, upgrade and intensively clean main streets

The one-day blitz is now coming to Booth and Johnston Street in Annandale on Thursday 13 August 2026 and will include high pressure cleaning of footpaths, graffiti removal, tree pruning, and deep cleaning of street furniture.

We are continuing to expand this program across the Inner West, and have already delivered clean-ups of main streets in Balmain, Ashfield, Leichhardt, Newtown and Marrickville.

The program will include:

  • High pressure cleaning of footpaths and street furniture
  • Maintenance and painting of street furniture
  • Graffiti and poster removal
  • Upgraded public seating
  • Laneway cleaning, weed removal and dumped rubbish removal
  • Replacement of all street and traffic signs
  • Street tree and ornamental garden replanting and pruning
  • Mulching and weeding of garden beds

We understand the importance of creating clean and welcoming spaces where locals can come together to enjoy their neighbourhood, whilst also supporting local businesses.
