The eagerly anticipated Callan Park Tidal Baths is another step closer to opening next summer with the appointment of SMC Marine to deliver the baths.
SMC are a family-owned Australian business that has recently completed work on the new Sydney Fish Markets and the Wulugul Walk at Barangaroo. With 25 years of marine construction projects behind them, they bring a wealth of experience to the project.
The plans for this exciting new swim site were approved by the Inner West Local Planning Panel in December 2025. Construction is due to begin in June, and completion is slated for summer 2026/27.
The exciting new swimming spot is being jointly funded by the NSW Government and Inner West Council.
Designs for the Tidal Baths include a generous fixed jetty, an accessible pathway and ramp, pontoon and sturdy shark net.
As well as offering the opportunity for a dip along the Bay Run, the Tidal Baths will also be a welcome attraction for users of nearby parks and sports fields.
Inner West Mayor, Darcy Byrne said; “We have finalised designs, planning approval and now we have a contractor in place to deliver Sydney’s newest favourite swim spot in time for next summer.”
“We’re now another step closer to having a local, free swim spot to take a dip on those hot summer days which is great news for the Inner West community.
“The Callan Park Tidal Baths will be a spectacular addition to the Bay Run which is already one of the best used recreation facilities in Sydney.
“This swim site is the next step in the incredible rehabilitation of the Parramatta River and will attract swimmers’ and families from all over the Inner West to take a dip in Callan Park.”
