16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence
Where:
A range of events are being held across the Inner West LGA to raise awareness about domestic and family violence.
When:
25 November to 10 December
The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is an international campaign calling for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.
It runs annually from 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women until 10 December, Human Rights Day.
Led by UN Women, the campaign works to raise awareness about the impacts of domestic and family violence, and provides an important opportunity for our whole community to take action.
More than 1 in 3 women have experienced men’s violence. On average, a woman is killed by a man she knows every 10 days. In 2024, that number has grown even higher.
On 28 April 2024, our Prime Minister declared violence against women to be a national emergency, with 1 woman being killed every 4 days.
Everyone has a role to play in changing attitudes and behaviours, as well as working to change systems, policies and processes that allow violence against women and girls to occur.
Inner West Council encourages you to take part in this global movement calling for urgent action to prevent gender-based violence. Find out how you can get involved, by participating in local events in the Inner West.

In conversation with writer and broadcaster Lucinda Froomes, Chanel will delve into issues of sexual entitlement, education, and the urgent need for cultural and systemic transformation.
