All cats and dogs in NSW must be microchipped and registered.
The NSW Pet Registry makes it easy to register your pet, update your details, and transfer ownership online. Keeping your details up to date helps keep pets safe and makes it easier to reunite lost animals with their owners.
Since 1 July 2020, the NSW Government requires annual permits for:
- Cats that are not desexed
- Restricted or dangerous dogs
These permits help promote responsible pet ownership and improve animal welfare.
Learn more about annual permit fees on the Office of Local Government website.
