Lunar New Year is traditionally celebrated by Central and South-East Asian diaspora all over the world, a tradition that dates back over 4,000 years.
All are welcome to participate. With the year of the goat associated with peace and creativity, there is no better time to reconnect with a familiar culture or expand your horizons with an unfamiliar one.

Calling all Performers and Stallholders
In 2027, Council will host celebrations in Ashfield and Marrickville. Here are the ways to participate as a performer or stallholder.
Applications open 27 October - 15 November.
Ashfield Forecourt will host Food stalls on Sunday 7 February. Food stalls are curated by Ashbiz in partnership with Inner West Council.
Selection Criteria:
- Applications from food businesses with a connection to Lunar New Year.
- BYO 3x3m tent only. You will need to bring appropriate weights (min 20kg per marquee leg), tables and chairs.
- High-quality, diverse food offerings that complement existing businesses around the event site
- Efficient service with capacity to handle peak crowds, and strong value for money
- Strong presentation and stall design
- Environmentally responsible practices, and (where possible) fresh and healthy menu offerings
- Local Ashfield businesses are prioritised, with strong EOIs from outside the area also considered:
Hercules St, Ashfield will host Community, Creative, and Businesses stalls on Sunday 7 February. Stalls are curated by Ashbiz in partnership with Inner West Council.

Selection Criteria:
A stage will pop up on Hercules street, Ashfield on Sunday 7 February. We are looking for individual and group performances that celebrate Lunar New Year.
Selection Criteria
- Performance honours cultures that celebrate Lunar New Year
- Performance set between 20-30 minutes
- Experience performing at festivals with a quick changeover time valued but not required
- Local Ashfield performers prioritised; strong applications from other areas in the Inner West Council Local Government Area will also be considered
Ashfield Town Hall is available on Sunday 7 Feb for a takeover celebrating Lunar New Year. We are seeking individuals or organisations to plan and deliver a self-contained event that operates parallel to other Ashfield programming on Sunday 7 February. You will have control of the venue from 12pm-5pm and organise your own series of performances.
Please note: this takeover does not include the Activity Rooms and Forecourt.

Selection Criteria
- Programming honours cultures that celebrate Lunar New Year
- Programming in Ashfield Town Hall 12pm-5pm on Sunday 7 February, 2026
- Applicant demonstrates a connection to performers and community groups and can coordinate with them to use the Town Hall
- Entry to your event must be free and open to the public
- Experience running self-contained events valued but not required
- Groups with a connection to Ashfield are prioritised; strong applications from other areas in the Inner West Council Local Government Area will also be considered
Council will host a series of performances in Alex Trevalion Plaza, Marrickville. Performances in Marrickville are curated by Inner West Council, please contact events@innerwest.nsw.gov.au to participate.
Note: There will not be stalls and pop up food at our Alex Trevalion Plaza event
