About Domestic Waste Charges
Each residential property owner receives a rates notice which includes the annual domestic waste management (DWM) charge applied to cover the cost of providing the residential waste service. This is authorised under Section 496 of the Local Government Act 1993.
This charge funds Council's household recycling service;
- Kerbside bins, collection and processing (red, yellow and green lid bins)
- Booked clean-up
Council's disposal costs include the NSW Government Section 88 landfill levy which increases annual as a strategy to reduce landfill.
Inner Wests waste charges are determined by the size of the red lid garbage bin.
2026/2027 Domestic Waste Charges
The following domestic waste management charges are current from 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027:
- Small garbage bin (less than 120 litres): $457.50 p.a.
- Standard garbage bin (120 litres): $610.00 p.a.
- Large garbage bin (240 litres): $915.00 p.a.
- Opt In Weekly Red-lid Garbage Bin Collection Charge (or free with exemption): $200.00 p.a. per bin
- Vacant/availability: $305.00 p.a.
