FOGO Turns One!

FOGO
Inner West Council celebrates the one-year anniversary of its Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) recycling service. Council attributes the success of the program to the dedication and cooperation of Inner West residents. Since the program's launch on 9 October 2023, the Inner West community has composted over 16,000 tonnes of food and garden organics.

This reflects our community's commitment to building a sustainable and resilient Inner West. By diverting 16,000 tonnes of FOGO from landfill, residents have avoided the equivalent annual emissions of powering 9,750 homes – that's nearly every home in Dulwich Hill and Lewisham.

Through FOGO, residents are supporting NSW farmers in Forbes with a high-quality compost. Compost is essential for improving the water holding capacity of soils – which improves the drought and flood resilience of farms.
