Ashfield, Summer Hill, Croydon and Haberfield apartment residents will soon be able to access Council's food recycling service.
Since the expansion of the food waste collection service to the Marrickville area in September 2020, the service has collected over 300 tonnes of food scraps. This means 627,900 kg of CO2 emissions have been avoided, the equivalent to removing 250 passenger vehicles from Sydney roads for one year.
With the average garbage bin containing about 36% food scraps this weekly collection service provides a fantastic opportunity for apartment dwellers to significantly reduce their waste to landfill.
Find out more about the food recycling service on Council's website. This project was supported by the Environmental Trust as part of the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment Waste Less, Recycle More initiative funded from the waste levy.
