What a whirlwind the last month has been. We hope you've been OK during this tough time - physically, mentally, emotionally and financially. Council recognises the extremely valuable role that artists play in driving community wellbeing, cultural experiences and our economy. We acknowledge the tremendous stress the COVID-19 and associated preventative measures are placing on our creative community. Staff across Council are working on strategies to address some of these impacts.
We would like to take this opportunity thank our artists who play such an important role in the community at times like this, by providing an escape, joy, social commentary, reflection, creative / accessible messaging, encouraging participation and finding ways to document these strange times.
These roles are varied and integral to our everyday life. Some of the best changes in society have been achieved through artists activism, action and reflection. We hope you remain safe, strong and inspired.
Today, we bring you a glimpse into the life of artist in residence at ArtCamp, Michele Morcos, a super talented multimedia visual artist who in non-pandemic times works to bring people together through her workshops encouraging making and creating in a welcoming environment. Michele recently exhibited 'Breathe' at Chrissie Cotter Gallery. Read more about Michele and her art here.
Please note all our public programming and spaces have had to be temporarily shut down. Stay informed on the latest updates via Council's website. We will endeavour to bring you some relief, great art, links to support and news through this newsletter. Get in touch if you have something web-based or online you can share!
