Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link
In March 2017, the NSW Premier and Minister for Roads announced early planning for this project, including the preferred route and the start of geotechnical drilling. This project is not part of WestConnex or NorthConnex.
The proposal includes two key components:
The Western Harbour Tunnel
- Will connect to WestConnex M4-M5 Link at the Rozelle Interchange; and
- Cross underneath Sydney Harbour between the Birchgrove and Waverton areas and connect with the Warringah Freeway at North Sydney.
- Is a tunnel which will connect the Warringah Freeway, cross under Middle Harbour connecting with the Burnt Bridge Creek deviation at Balgowlah; and
- The Wakehurst Parkway will be upgraded to two lanes each way between Seaforth and Frenchs Forest.
RMS has published several informative documents including the Western Harbour and Beaches Link Fact Sheet and Tunnel Ventilation and Air Quality (PDF 482.8KB). A number of community feedback sessions were conducted at the Balmain Town Hall in May 2017.
