Description

36th Battalion Park is on the site of the Drill and Training Hall for the 36th Battalion formed in Ashfield in 1921. At the start of the Second World War the battalion recruited heavily from the areas of Leichhardt and Haberfield. Amongst other duties the 36th Battalion was engaged in fighting around the Kokada Trail and at Sanananda where the battalion lost half its soldiers within a fortnight.
