Ashfield service area

Living Christmas trees

Inner West Council is providing a one-off living (not artificial) Christmas tree collection service for households in the Ashfield service area. The trees collected will be processed into compost.

To book your tree in for this service, please phone Council's Customer Service on 9392 5000. Bookings are essential. Trees will be collected on Monday 15 January 2018.

Artificial Christmas trees

Artificial trees are not recyclable – but they are reusable! Store your artificial tree from year to year, or if you no longer want it ask a friend, neighbour, charity, local secondhand shop, The Bower or Reverse Garbage.

Leichhardt service area

Living Christmas trees

Living Christmas trees can be recycled as part of your regular garden collection service, i.e. tied in bundles on the kerb with natural material and cut into lengths of one (1) metre with trunk/tree branches up to 150mm in diameter, OR via drop off to the Weekend Transfer Station green waste bin (fees apply).

Please note there will be no garden organics collection service on Sunday 24 December 2017 or Sunday 31 December 2017.

  • Services for 24 December for Zones 1-6 will now be collected on Sunday 7 January 2018
  • Services for 31 December for Zones 7-12 will now be collected on Sunday 14 January 2018

Marrickville service area

There will be no changes to Council's green waste collection services over the Christmas and New Year period. If your green waste collection day falls on a public holiday such as Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year's Day, your bins will still be emptied.

Living Christmas trees

Living Christmas trees can be recycled as part of your household branches (bundled and tied) clean up service. Please note that the trees need to be tied in bundles on the kerb with natural material and cut into lengths of one (1) metre with trunk/tree branches up to 150mm in diameter OR via drop off to the Weekend Transfer Station green waste bin (fees apply).
