Western Harbour Tunnel - Rozelle to Frenchs Forest

In March 2017, the NSW Premier and Minister for Roads announced early planning for this project, including the preferred route and the start of geotechnical drilling. This project is not part of WestConnex or NorthConnex.

The proposal includes two key components:

The Western Harbour Tunnel

  • Will connect to WestConnex M4-M5 Link at the Rozelle Interchange; and
  • Cross underneath Sydney Harbour between the Birchgrove and Waverton areas and connect with the Warringah Freeway at North Sydney.

 Beaches Link

  • Is a tunnel which will connect the Warringah Freeway, cross under Middle Harbour connecting with the Burnt Bridge Creek deviation at Balgowlah; and
  • The Wakehurst Parkway will be upgraded to two lanes each way between Seaforth and Frenchs Forest.

Council submission to RMS on WHT reference design

In November 2018 Council submitted feedback on the Western Harbour Tunnel reference design, outlining the community's concerns on the lack of information on key features of the design, as well as the likely impacts the WHT will have.
