Seniors Festival 2018 - it's a wrap for another year

Spark Youth Theatre has brought together an intergenerational ensemble of young and older people from the community to make a new multimedia show about the potential for words, actions and theatre to change the world.

Rusty Riders Tempe

The Rusty Rider Course is tailored for those who haven't ridden for a while and just need the confidence to start riding more regularly.

GreenWay walking tour and GreenWay bush care drop in

Monday 9 April 10am-1pm meet at Lewisham Light Rail Station

A 2.5 km stroll along a section of the Cooks River to Iron Cove GreenWay. See how this vital sustainable transport and urban environmental corridor is being transformed in the 21st century to meet the needs of a growing inner west population.  Highlights include Lewisham West precinct, GreenWay bush care sites (including the shortest bush walk in the inner west), Hawthorne Canal, public art, rail heritage, parks, playgrounds, Canal Road Film Centre and more. The walk will finish at the Bay Run, where the GreenWay meets Parramatta River at Iron Cove. There are toilets and bubblers at various points along the route and a stop for refreshments at the Café Bones.

Edible Weeds Workshop

Wednesday 11 April 10am– 1pm Start at Cooks River Tempe to Steele park

Meet at Tempe Station carpark, off Richardson Crescent

A slow paced walk alongside the Cooks River with a guided tour on edible weeds, ending at Steel Park for a light lunch.

Bring a hat, proper footwear, camera and notebook. This is an all-weather event and will only be cancelled if there are strong winds or heavy rains.

Naturalist Diego Bonetto will introduce you to the wonders and possibilities of edible weeds on a two-hour urban tour. To some, plantain, dandelion, chickweed and sow-thistle are a nuisance - to others they are a delicious salad and a seasonal treat. Learn about the most common species growing in your garden, on the green belts and in parks and reserves. Find out how they have been used for food, craft and natural remedies. Discover the old stories, how to harvest the urban ‘wild’ and enrich your diet with vitamins and minerals. A complimentary booklet is provided.

Inner West Women's Shed Inc. Open Afternoon 

Wednesday 11 April noon-4pm

Meet the Shedettes and have a peek at the arts and crafts they are working on at Shed HQ / Seaview Hall, 12 - 14 Seaview street, Dulwich Hill. It's the same day as their 5th Birthday so join in celebrating with a cuppa and scones hot out of the oven.

Inner West Women's Shed Inc. is a creative social group with many varied creative interests that include lots more than knitting and crochet, who welcome all women to join them every Wednesday from noon- 4pm to learn or share creative skills with lots of laughs and friendship.

Seniors Soiree/ Mocktail Party

Saturday14 April  2-5pm Leichhardt Town Hall

A mocktail party featuring the NSW Police Concert Band, under the command of Senior Sergeant Murray Mayday, the musical direction of conductor John Saunders and featuring award winning vocalist Belinda Adams.

Enjoy free champagne on arrival, mocktails and canapes.

Learn about local walking groups and the new Heart Foundation walking app, while enjoying a light breakfast.  Bring walking shoes for an optional short walk afterwards.

Mini bus tour 1 Men’s shed and Native plant nursery tour

Tuesday 17 April  10.30am-4pm 

Mini bus tour to the Men’s Sheds: A place for men to meet and develop new friendships, while working on individual and community projects and activities, learning new skills, and improving old ones. This tour of Leichhardt Community and Haberfield Men's Sheds will finish up at the community native nursery at White’s Creek. Light lunch included. Bring water, sun protection and comfortable shoes.

Free entry to aquatic centres

Visit the Leichhardt Park Aquatic Centre between 4 and 11 April or the Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centre 12 to 19 April.  Present your seniors' card for free entry to swim, workout in the gym or do a Seniors group exercise or aqua class.

Not applicable for current members (no time credit) – however you can bring friends along to try.


Each free week finishes on a Wednesday (11 April for LPAC & 19 April of AKAC) with free coffee/tea being served at 9am.
