Home maintenance and modification service

The Inner West Home Maintenance and Modification Service assists people with access, safety and independence in daily living in their own home, or with a carer.

Our service provides a modification, maintenance, adjustment and advice service for frail older people, younger people with disability or functional limitations and their carers.

People who own their home and tenants of public housing and privately rented housing can be assisted with work that is not their landlord's responsibility.
Services include:

  • Modification - Installing ramps, handrails, hand-held showers and widening doorways, correcting bench heights, removing shower screens, slip – resist floor treatments etc.

  • Maintenance - Repairing doors, windows, fences and gates, carpentry repairs, changing light globes and single storey gutter cleans etc.

  • Adjustment - Securing rugs, cords, door catchers, curtain rails, modifying furniture, etc.

  • Advice - We provide advice on your home maintenance and modification matters, and can also refer you to other agencies if you need extra assistance for plumbing, electrical and smoke alarm requests if you are eligible.

This service is available to eligible residents of the Inner West local government area, who are 65 or over. The service is also available for eligible residents under 65 who reside in the suburbs of Leichhardt, Annandale, Balmain, Balmain East, Rozelle, Birchgrove or Lilyfield.
