Cultural and Industrial Heritage: Exploring the Sydenham Creative Hub

What does cultural and industrial heritage mean for urban renewal? Join
Frontyard at Scratch Art Space for a futuring discussion about the
Sydenham Creative Hub. We will explore the questions: What kinds of
spaces are needed to keep creativity flowing in neighbourhoods? Are
there unexplored synergies between the needs of artists and
manufacturers that can help shape more creative futures for
everybody? In this session we will be hearing from experts who have been
actively working towards alternative futures and we will work together
to articulate alternative and preferred futures that matter to us. Bring
your wild and modest ideas, your critiques of the status quo, and an

voodoo, mapping and assemblage, to explore the primal attachment we have
to our homes/neighbourhoods; and to underline the critical importance
that marginal narratives play in the creation of ‘place’. Location: 24a

Cars and Our Future - A Frontyard event (Studio 33)
20 May 2017, 2pm - How do we let cars determine our future? Frontyard will entertain
some possible and preferable futures to a city designed for cars.
What can we learn from the activism against WestConnex? How can
creative spaces have more agency in infrastructure decisions? Frontyard
will be working together with experts who have been actively working
towards alternative futures; and to articulate alternative and preferred
futures that matter to us. Bring your wild and modest ideas, your
critiques of the status quo, and an open mind for this discussion.

AirSpace Artist Talks (Studio 17)
21 May 2017. 2pm - 3pm; The May
exhibitions will conclude with artist talks by Misael M., Eunjoo Jang
and Stella Chen, followed by casual conversation with the artists.
Also visit our four contemporary gallery spaces in a funky
warehouse showcasing the work of both emerging and well-known
established artists, and check out the workshop and artist studios.

The Future of Arts in our Neighbourhood @ Frontyard Projects (Studio 7)
21 May 2017. 2pm - How can people have a say in shaping the future of their
neighbourhoods? Frontyard, believe that independent creative spaces is
vital to this discussion. We will be working together with experts who
have been actively working towards alternative futures to articulate
alternative and preferred futures that matter to us, focusing on three
issues. Bring your wild and modest ideas, your critiques of the status
quo, and an open mind. We will be documenting our discussion and feeding
back to government and industry as part of the process. What is the
future of the ARTS in our neighbourhoods?¨Who should fund the arts? What
does urban renewal mean for independent creative spaces? What can we
learn from gentrification that will give communities the ability to
actively shape creative futures?
