Clr Rochelle Porteous – Balmain Ward

Background

Rochelle currently works as a manager for a peak disability organisation.

Previously she ran a women’s refuge, worked with survivors of childhood sexual abuse and worked in social justice, political and environmental campaigner roles.

She has also been a teacher, a trainer and run small businesses.

Rochelle’ academic qualifications include a Masters in Communication Management (UTS) and Bachelor of Arts (University of Newcastle).

Rochelle is married. She speaks fluent Italian and Spanish

Aims as a Councillor

  • Committed to returning real local democracy to the inner west
  • Give residents the opportunity to vote on this forced amalgamation
  • Committed to protecting and improving council services and to stopping WestConnex
  • Roll out carbon-neutrality to former Ashfield and Marrickville Councils as the Greens did for Leichhardt
  • Enable solar on every Inner West rooftop.
  • Achieve significant increases in affordable housing stock in the inner west.
  • Get better connections across the inner west, both in terms of public transport and active transport allowing families to be able to ride their bikes from home to school or walk to school on safe footpaths.
  • See real investment in more community-owned, community–run centres – more art spaces, cultural spaces, more spaces for young people and older people and more green spaces for everyone.

  • Sydney Coastal Councils Group.
