Clr Dylan Griffiths – Djarrawunang Ward (Ashfield)

Background

Dylan grew up in the Inner West, where he attended local public schools and later worked in jobs ranging from truck driving, bartending, union organising, to his current employment at the University of Sydney. He is currently undertaking a research project in Urban Geography examining informal waste pickers in Sydney.

Prior to his election in 2021, Dylan led successful community campaigns that advocated to the state government to contribute funding for a new park on Holden St Ashfield, and for Inner West Council to increase the opening hours at Ashfield Aquatic Centre and introduce a new $1.20 entry rate for social security recipients.

He is an active member of the National Tertiary Education Union serving at all levels of the union - on the University of Sydney Branch Committee, the State Council and Executive, and the National Council.

Dylan is proud to represent the Ashfield Ward. He is determined to better the Inner West for working class people and the environment – an Inner West where no one is left behind.

Aims as a councillor

Dylan's top priority is for Inner West Council to take real action on the cost of living and housing affordability crises. He understands the concerns of working families and renters. Dylan particularly wants Inner West Council to invest in council-led affordable housing developments.

He believes providing high quality infrastructure and services is key to creating a fairer society. Ensuring our footpaths are up to scratch, the verges are mowed, our high streets are well maintained to attract the community, and that Inner West Council provides high-quality and accessible facilities like Ashfield Aquatic Centre and Marrickville Library.

Dylan is of the opinion that the Inner West needs to give greater priority to active transport and making our streets safe for pedestrians and cyclists. He is particularly passionate about ensuring the timely completion of the GreenWay and ensuring that it’s a continuous active transport corridor. Dylan wants Inner West Council to focus on cleaning our waterways, increasing our tree canopy, investing in renewable energy, and further divestment from fossil fuel.
