Event Details:

National Tree Day is Australia's largest planting and nature care event and was started by Planet Ark.  Inner West Council celebrates National Tree Day every year with community planting days, as well as a free tree giveaway to residents! The plantings will contribute to the area's local biodiversity and urban canopy for years to come.

This is one of three events being held across the Inner West LGA to celebrate National Tree Day 2018, and is the only event with a free tree giveaway. Whites Creek Valley Park is home to a huge variety of native wildlife such as Eastern Rosellas and Tawny Frogmouths, Common Ringtail Possums and Blue-tongued Lizards, among many others. Native fish, frogs and turtles can also be found in the adjacent wetlands. Community plantings have occurred on this site since a local resident started in 1995, and these plantations have been critical to the formation of new habitat.

For site details and to register, please visit the official event page here. Council will supply gloves, trowels and other tools. Just show up with a water bottle, closed shoes and a hat!

The free tree giveaway will occur at the Rozelle Bay Community Nursery, located at 22 Wisdom St, Annandale (a 5 minute walk from the planting site), between 10am and 1pm. Please note that the tree giveaway is offered to residents within the Inner West Council area only and you will need to show proof of address on the day. The trees will be advanced sized stock (25 litre bags/300mm pots), so please make sure you can accommodate this size when picking it up. One tree per household will be provided.

Council is also celebrating National Tree Day at two other sites across three weekends in 2018Click here to view them all.
